Fallece el productor Andrew Weatherall, figura clave de Screamadelica

Andrew Weatherall ha fallecido a los 56 años a causa de una embolia pulmonar. El prestigioso productor, músico y DJ estaba ingresado en Londres con problemas respiratorios y un cuágulo ha propiciado su muerte, según ha confirmado su agencia de management: “Lamentamos profundamente anunciar que el famoso DJ y músico Andrew Weatherall fallecía en la madrugada de este lunes 17 de febrero de 2020 en el Hospital Whipps Cross de Londres. La causa de la muerte fue una embolia pulmonar. Estaba siendo tratado en el hospital, pero desafortunadamente el coágulo de sangre llegó a su corazón. Su muerte fue rápida y pacífica”.

Después de foguearse en la escena post-punk, Weatherall se convirtió en una figura clave en la música británica más underground, siendo de los DJs clave en el movimiento acid house de finales de la década de 1980. Danny Rampling lo reclutó para pinchar en el club nocturno de Londres Shoom, y pronto fundó el sello discográfico Boy’s Own Recordings y el equipo de producción Bocca Juniors.

Otros proyectos musicales fueron Sabres Of Paradise junto a Jagz Kooner o el dúo Two Lone Swordsmen junto a Keith Tenniswood, aunque quizás su trabajo más famoso fue con Primal Scream en su álbum de 1991 Screamadelica. Su contribución junto con la banda de Bobby Gillespie y su producción lo convirtió en uno de los discos más celebrados de la década de 1990. Trabajó con Happy Mondays, New Order, Saint Etienne, Doves, Death In Vegas, James, Trentemoller…
